Heart disease. Diabetes. Stroke. Cancer. High Blood Pressure.
These are all distracting terms for the underlying issue: Obesity. There are millions upon millions of dollars spent on “fighting” these afflictions or “finding cures” . . . and treatment of heart disease and stroke alone are expected to break $800 billion over the next 20 years. What’s the magic antidote we are all chasing our tails over? A pill here and a pill there, supplements galore, watching what you eat, reducing calories, shedding extra pounds, pure acceptance of our fate? None of it is working, unless disease and death and a miserable, shortened life is your idea of YOLO (You Only Live Once).
The antidote is as simple, and as complex, as how we choose to fuel and feed our bodies. Studies have shown that in spite of the reduction in consumption of fat and calories, with the onslaught of diets and health fads, a reduction in obesity rates is not happening . . . obesity rates are still climbing. It’s not about caloric intake or pills or potions. It’s all about how you fuel yourself. With heart disease as the number one killer of Americans (out of the approximately two million deaths in the U.S. each year, 600,000 are a result of heart disease, and 500,000 are malignant cancers), we have got to get serious, eyes wide open, looking in the mirror AT OURSELVES and demanding more for our one shot here.
Worse even, is the seemingly increasing acceptance that with old age comes disease, cancer, pain, health struggles, etc. Seven out of every 10 deaths (of the two million) are among people 70 years and older. And at this stage in human existence, older adults predominantly die of chronic diseases: cardiovascular diseases, cancers, dementia, chronic obstructive lung disease or diabetes. The bulk of which could be tamed by a fuel-efficient, nutrient-packed, strong, healthy body. Are you ready to accept disease and dying as your fate? Are you ready to have your quality of life diminished, if not your entire life, shortened . . . going gently into the good night? Dylan Thomas would not be pleased. And you shouldn’t be either.
You are in Power
What are you doing to safeguard yourself from these afflictions? What are you doing to ensure you have 100 successful, healthy, vibrant years in your lifetime? The first step is believing it is absolutely possible, it isn’t a hope or dream or some distant fantasy. It’s in your power. And it lies within the power of the food you choose to fuel your body. #FuelOn #HealthyWarrior #100YearBody
